Tiny House Productions are a Leeds based Theatre Company, co-founded in 2004 by Leeds locals Brendan Harrington and Neil Knipe. Both were veterans of the amateur operatic societies, who shared the desire to branch away from traditional 'Am Dram' and produce a variety of more sophisticated and challenging works for the stage.
With an ever evolving cast of regular actors, Tiny House Productions have gone from strength to strength and have gained quite the reputation in local theatre.
Tiny House Productions' debut play was Loot by Joe Orton, a dark and witty comedy with the attributes of a traditional farce. It was performed in the humble settings of Rodillian High School. Rodillian would also be the venue for Tiny House’s second production Play It Again, Sam, by Oscar winning Director, Woody Allen. The play focused on the miserable love life of a neurotic who was coached on the dating scene by the spirit of Hollywood legend Humphrey Bogart.
Due to the overwhelming success of these two shows, The Carriageworks in Leeds invited Tiny House Productions to move their shows from the restrictive environment of a high school drama studio to the freedom and status of their contemporary professional theatre in the heart of the city.
Here they staged the national classic and inspirational underdog story, Up ‘n Under by John Godber. This production about a motley crew of rugby players featured Rugby legend and Great Britain Captain, Roger Millward in his first and only acting role. The production was so successful that extra performances had to be added to the run, Leeds Rhinos Rugby Team requested an exclusive performance and Tiny House Productions were featured on BBC1.
Since then, Tiny House has had a strong relationship with The Carriageworks. The venue has seen Tiny House produce an eclectic mix of shows including the West End smash hit Art by Yasmina Reza, the comedy thriller, Audacity by Simon Mawdsley and the powerful Accrington Pals by Peter Whelan.
Tiny House has become infamous for their sold out runs of John Godber’s Bouncers. The show was so popular tickets sold out months before the performances and, due to popular demand, Tiny House were forced to bring it back a year later. It’s return saw them joining up with Hull Truck Theatre Company and Godber himself to perform a John Godber double bill of Boucners and Shakers.
The last few years have seen a string of plays praised for their moving, complex and intense performances with Ben Elton's Popcorn, Love and Understanding by Joe Penhall and My Mother Said I Never Should by Charlotte Keatley. Like any theatre company worth it’s salt, Tiny House Productions have also tackled William Shakespeare with Romeo and Juliet, their most ambitious production to date.
